    hmm, interesting question

    First you check his squad
take a look at his DL-DR.
If they have some goals or assists maybe he use them with attack arrows.
The same with DML-DMR (if he has a formation with those two positions).
    Are they defending players ? DL-DML or attackers too ? DL-ML-AML ?
Do they score or giving assists (playing as wingers) ?
If not and he uses DML-3DC-DMR-2MC-AMC-2ST style formations, you can set only 3DC-1DMC in your defense.
If they are winger/attackers too, then you must have winger backs too (a 4D+1DMC better).

If he has ML-MR , you must use DL-DR anyway.

If oppo use a formation with only one ST (4-5-1V, 4-4-1-1) , check his quality and stats.
If he isn't so good, you can set only one DC to confront him.
If he is very good, set 2DCs.

Check if oppo has some F-K specialist with a lot of goals. If he has, maybe a good strategy is to set easy tackling.

Does your oppo watching his games ?
When you 're a final 8 or semis, visit the games of the other pair (better without supporting anyone )
    Who 's in ?
Also a high percentage at ball possession usually is a sign that only one manager is watching the game.
If oppo is watching, be prepared for a plan B.
Also you must take a look from time to time (in your game) if he switched his formation.
Check his roster. What formations can he play ?
He plays 4-4-2 ND or 4-3-3 maybe, but does he has also good AML-AMR in his team ?

Check his previous games in the competition. Which formation gave him hard times ?

If he 's active and switching formations, you may set a "decoy" formation before your final.
Set a 4-3-3ST so maybe he 'll use DC and 3-4 min before the game, switch to wingers.
Or set wingers and if he uses 1DC-1DMC, switch to 3ST or ND.

Check his finance. If it's a wealthy team, remember to set a lv3 or lv4 win bonus so to confront a possible high bonus of his side.

If he has a lot of friends in his games, make a call to your friends for your final (post some reminder too).

Being present in the game is very important so if it's semi final, you must adjust the time of your home game, to be sure you 're gonna watch it.
A "dirty" trick is to check his country and time zone and switch your hour in a "difficult" hour for him if you have a very different hour.
But don't do that in the first game or else he 'll pay back this in his home game.

There are also preparations you must do about your team

    - Win Bonus : remember to set lv3 or lv4 , the higher

    - Training bonus : try to have the max, 10% in every category. If your bonus is low, try to get the 10% previous day so with the daily reduction of -2%, to be at 8%. Then, the day of the final, go for the 10%. If it's low, 4 or 6% then you must do a lot of training to make it 10% and this is not good for the day of your final (semi-final).
If your critical game is early in the morning (10-11.00) I recommend not to train your basic squad, only the bench players.
If it's later hour, give a training with all your team once and later try to catch the 10% with your bench players.
    X2 video is your priority.

    - if you have a league match before your final and it's home, try to change the hour after your final (if it's possible) with 2 tokens.
If you can't, try to keep some of your key players in the bench to have them fresh for the final.

    - Check if you have players with yellow cards and try to "protect" them for your final.
If you lack some position, maybe you could buy a new player from the market (not a scout list player). A low 5* with 2-3 token can help too.

    - Check the form of your players. If someone is in de-forme period, bench him.
Try not to replenish the morale of your players with boosters often.
Let them play with good morale (not set them every time to perfect).
This can work as an indicator, to detect which one is going down, up or the same.
Then , the day of the final, give the players with good moral, a double blue pack. The players with very good, just leave them.

    - If you have to choose players for your final, check who is performing better in that competition
If you spot some players that played better in the Cup or CH.L., prefer those.

Nick, could you advise on a formation to defeat a team with a better quality than mine. He currently has 144%, while I have 128% (depending on the formation used). He mostly plays 4-1-3w-1-1. Please, I have been scheduled to play this team in the final.
Can I use 5-1(DMC)-2-2 Formation for this match?
Will appreciate your input. Please, also advise on the mentality as well. Thank you

Hi Nik, for early matches I noticed you advised against training first eleven. Only train bench so we will play first 11 with 8 percent TPB. Is there a reason for this? I am assuming most of us have greens to cover it especially for impt matches.

When I wrote it, there wasn't the TPB. Only the 4X10% bonus.
But so far, I haven't seen any useful effect of the TPB in team's performance.

sorry Olubaba, this thread isn't here to give counters but only tips, way of thinking, the road to create your counters.
But tell me why you think to use 3DC when oppo has only one ?
And if oppo is stronger, you must use def/counters unless later during the game you 're loosing and must play all or nothing.
